Renting a place without an residency in Japan
July 12, 2024

You can be in Osaka, Kyoto, or even Tokyo, and the system to rent a house is almost the same everywhere. Even with a residence card in Japan, there are still a few landlords who don't allow foreigners to live in their places. Indeed the Zairyu card (在留), is always the most important thing to get in your pocket while settle down in Japan.  Despite all of this, can you rent a place if you don't have any visa and only have your passport in your pocket?

I will not teach anything about Airbnb on a monthly lease, but you will often find a very expensive price for the market. Besides that, the fact is that Airbnb creates a strong feeling that you are not settled and that the house is not truly yours.

Is it possible to rent a normal place, like every local can afford? In theory, it's not possible. However, at Maido, we understood this problem and came up with a new service. If you are a foreigner looking to have your own place in Japan without permanent residency, we’ve got you covered.

We rent the place in our company name and make a contract with you. The business model for us is simple: in exchange for providing this service and taking on the associated risk, we take a small cut of the rent every month. Since this is a very particular service, there are several conditions for us to study your case. Please reach out to us to discuss your personal situation and see if we can help you with your Japan project.

Like this bird, be free and fly to new horizons in Japan.
